Steve H. Parker, MD

Co-founder, Chairman and Director

Dr. Parker is an internationally recognized interventional radiologist and is well published in the areas of breast ultrasound, diagnosis and image-guided procedures. He was a founder and Director of both Opus Medical and Biopsys Medical, and currently serves as a consultant for several medical companies. Dr. Parker has written, edited and contributed to several books on percutaneous biopsy, and he is the author of numerous articles published in peer reviewed professional journals. Dr. Parker received his MD degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado, and fellowship at the University of Colorado.

T. Spencer Williamson

Director

Mr. Williamson is also the current President and CEO of Kaléo, a specialty pharmaceutical company pioneering the next generation of drug/device combination products. Prior to joining Kaléo, he spent 15 years with Guidant Corporation (now Boston Scientific Corporation) in a variety of sales, marketing and general management positions. He began his career in the Medical Devices and Diagnostics (MDD) Division of Eli Lilly & Co., which became Guidant Corporation in 1994, where he was Director of Global Bradyarrhythmia and Tachyarrhythmia Marketing for the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division. His final position with Guidant was Director of Operations for the western United States. Mr. Williamson holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute and a MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Mark A. Ritchart

President and CEO

Prior to his roles at Avenu Medical, Mr. Ritchart served as Co-founder, President and Chief Technical Officer of Opus Medical and was instrumental in the company’s successful acquisition by Arthrocare Corporation. Prior to Opus, Mr. Ritchart held the position of Director of Research and Development for Biopsys Medical, which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson after a successful IPO. Mr. Ritchart co-founded Cayenne Medical, which was acquired by Zimmer Biomet, and also held various senior engineering positions at Vesica Medical, Applied Medical Resources, Target Therapeutics, and Edwards Lifesciences. Additionally, Mr. Ritchart has authored or co-authored more than 40 patents related to medical devices. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.

Ed L. Chang

Chief Marketing Officer

Mr. Chang has more than 30 years of experience marketing medical devices. Prior to co-founding Avenu Medical, Mr. Chang served as Co-founder and Vice President of Marketing at Opus Medical from its inception to its acquisition by Arthrocare Corporation. Prior to Opus, he held the position of Director of Marketing at Biopsys Medical through its commercialization, IPO and subsequent acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Chang also co-founded Cayenne Medical, which was acquired by Zimmer Biomet, and held various senior global marketing positions at Applied Medical Resources, Imagyn Medical and Edwards Lifesciences. In his career, Mr. Chang has served as a member of the Board of Directors and has been a marketing consultant for multiple medical device companies. Mr. Chang is a Dean’s Leadership Council member and Mentor, and a former Foundation Board Trustee at the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences.

Thomas W. McCandlish

Director

Mr. McCandlish has served as Chairman of McCandlish Holton, P.C. for over three decades and was the original founding member of the firm.  Over the course of his career, Mr. McCandlish has led the firm’s Corporate and Health Care Group as well as its International Practice Group. Under Mr. McCandlish’s leadership, the firm operated a branch office in China for over 15 years beginning in 1995 as one of the first twelve US law firms approved by the Chinese government. McCandlish Holton continues to serve the international needs of its clients in China and elsewhere through membership in Lawyers Associated Worldwide, an international network of law firms around the globe. Mr. McCandlish currently focuses his practice on serving as a legal and strategic advisor to selected privately held companies, primarily startup and growth companies in the technology and health care sectors. He has extensive experience in structuring and negotiating complex transactions. Mr. McCandlish is also an active private equity investor and strategic advisor focusing on companies in the medical device and technology sectors and in commercial real estate, including senior housing development. Mr. McCandlish has served on the Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University and on the Board of Directors of the VCU Intellectual Property Foundation. He is a member of the Society of International Fellows (SIBF) and is immediate past Chairman of the Global Network Foundation affiliated with SIBF. He is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Virginia.
